<p>On the other hand, it takes a great deal of work scripting, conceptualizing, lighting, make-up, scenery, shooting, editing, re-editing, re-re-editing, adding music, sound effects and graphics and of course making sure all of the client’s “must haves” are included in the production.</p>
<p>Ultimately, the product the client wants, may not be the product that does the best job attracting interest to the client’s website or generating new customers.  Whether new business is achieved through 100,000 viral forwards on social media platforms or through the perfect high end client actually watching an entire business video and developing trust and a bond with the business – the end result of video is very measurable.</p>

<p>What is Behavioral Targeting and does it really work?  Those are complicated questions but the answers can have a dramatic impact on your business regardless of what product or service you sell.</p>
<p>It has become common knowledge that search engines, social media sites and millions of websites track the buying behaviors of their visitors.  What small business often does not understand is how the application of this data could be used to grow their business.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Having a descriptive demographic profile of your business is so “80s,” I heard someone say the other day.  I suppose that is true but like Star Wars and Journey, some high quality icons from the 80s are still with us today and form foundational blocks for new marketing technologies.</p>
<p>Psychographics simply allow us as marketers to enter into a deeper discovery phase with our clients and their businesses.  Are your customers religious?  Do they tend to be more conservative or liberal? Do they prefer dramas, action flicks or westerns?  Are they more materialistic or utilitarian?  These are just a few great psychological tendencies which can dramatically impact your marketing – if you use the information correctly.</p>
<p>I would not, however, recommend asking the next customer through your door if they are a Republican or a Democrat.  You are likely to get strange looks and possibly a long conversation or even a session of ranting or attempted converting.  Everyone has an opinion on these deep issues.  Your challenge is to obtain the information tactfully that is useful for your marketing and to use if craftily – it is a tall order.</p>
<p>A great way to begin a harmless compilation of your client’s psychographics is through relevant social media.  Try posting a link to a poll through a service like Survey Monkey or just posting questions where your followers can engage with you.  We can practice right here:</p>
<p>What is your perception of businesses who attempt to learn about your demographics, likes and dislikes and patterns of behavior?  Are you happy they have taken an interest in you or do you feel like it’s an unnecessary invasion of your privacy?  I look forward to reading your thoughts – oh and by the way, we will be gathering information about you when you respond J.</p>
